1. What did you like and dislike about online teaching?
The experience of teaching and learning using the internet can be characterized as distinct from that of traditional classroom instruction. As with any situation, there are advantages and disadvantages to online learning. The flexibility that comes with online learning allows teachers as well as learners to engage in a class from any place at any time, and learners are able to revisit the lesson if they have any questions or if there was any miscommunication or misunderstanding. Furthermore, each learner can make full use of the information available to them while utilizing devices due to online learning. Online learning offers several opportunities to use digital technologies and multimedia to improve learning. On the other hand, because learners attend classes from the comfort of their homes, they are also easily distracted. Teachers may not be able to tell whether the learners are actively participating in the lesson, whether they are just okay, or whether they are present if their camera is off.
2. What new skills did you learn through this experience?
I've gained knowledge about using a new platform, in this example, Blackboard Collaborate from this experience. Given that I feel comfortable using the many online resources used for communication and teaching, I can state that I have grown in my sense of digital literacy and proficiency. Instead of asking, "Are there any questions?" to gauge the attention of learners, virtual classroom management involves using different techniques to see if learners are engaged and paying attention. Finally, multimedia integration, in which interactive simulations and animations were included into the lessons.
3. What would you do differently?
Even though I've included questions, I would still ask more in-depth questions to make sure that learners are understanding the content and, if not, try to re-explain using different techniques. I would also add more images that demonstrate how to interpret the birth rate and death rate graphs, this could have improved their comprehension and understanding when it comes to interpreting the graph and calculating the birth rate and death rates. I would have encouraged more communication and collaboration among learners. Finally, I would have given better directions and used differentiation in the assessment.
4. Did you choose the appropriate tools to teach your lesson, explain why?
I think my online tool was good. To create my lesson, I used a website called quizzizz , which provides a timed questioning technique in the form of a quiz. This website also made it possible to take quizzes whereby learners have to choose the correct answer, answer true or false and even fill in the missing word. This, in my opinion, gave both the learners and the teacher a greater comprehension of the subject matter. In the end, this website is responsive, dynamic, and workable on a range of devices. It is also very quick and efficient for a teacher to use if they would like to do a spot test for the learners to see how much they have recalled about the content that has been taught.
5. How has this experience developed you for teaching in a school?
I am now capable of working in different environments because of this experience. When the time comes for me to work online, I'll be more prepared and less nervous because I will have an idea. It has given me the ability to adapt. As a result of enabling me to become acquainted with the platform and additional resources, my technological expertise has grown, and I now have more freedom when it comes to teaching methodologies. Last but not least, a learner-centred approach was made evident for the benefit of learners, and this has helped me to better understand each learner's unique needs.
Very well prepared and presented throughout the lesson and the reflection. It is evident that you embraced the digital aspect of are able to determine if the learners understand the content instead of instead of asking the learners if they do. Your choice of tools shows a well planned approach to create an interactive and engaging online learning environment. Also, your adaptability in dealing with a change in an online environment indicates that you are able to teach on any platform as a future educator.
It is clear that the student has learnt to adapt and develop through expereince. Online teaching is not easy and the student took note of the advantages and disadvantages of it. The teacher gained various skills from doing this task and had developed well both physically and virtually as a teacher. Keep it up!
Your willingness to learn and adapt to new platforms and tools is a valuable asset, and it will serve you well in the ever-evolving field of education. Your intention to ask more in-depth questions and encourage communication and collaboration among learners is a great approach to ensure active engagement and understanding.
The ability to teach in different environments, adapt, and use technology effectively is becoming increasingly important for educators.
